Effectively addressing student substance use requires a strong understanding of the complex legal framework school officials must follow under state and federal law. In this episode, participants will learn about statutory requirements related to identifying and responding to students suspected of under the influence, requirements to provide a comprehensive drug and alcohol counseling program and protect student confidentiality, and key aspects of recently enacted legislation legalizing cannabis use for adults, and the impact of cannabis legalization on how schools operate. This episode has a companion episode addressing best practices and working with parents.
